May I tell you a parable?
A slave owner was on trial before a judge because it was illegal to own slaves. The slave owner said, “According to my religion, these people are inferior, and need to be slaves so they can be taken care of.”
The defense attorney said to the judge, “This slave owner is innocent of any crime because we have a law that guarantees freedom of religion.”
The judge said, “The freedom of religion law guarantees the freedom to worship as you choose. It doesn’t grant the freedom to control the rights of others.”
The judge swung his gavel down after saying, “There are two wicked people in my courtroom today. Throw the slave owner and the defense attorney in jail.”
