In the 1980s, I remember having discussions with my fellow wireless systems electronics technicians. We were concerned that there were too few people who actually understood the underlying technology we were deploying and maintaining. We surmised that in the event of a major nuclear war, we’d all be thrown back to the pioneer days, pre-electricity, and unable to rebuild. I mean, unable. Electricity would return fairly quickly, but semiconductor-based electronics would have to evolve all over again. As you so eloquently explained in your article, the present situation is even more unrecoverable - and it won’t require nuclear weapons for us to destroy our civilization.
