Life can be hard. Really hard. Is it worth it?
Tonight, a friend who means a lot to me posted on Facebook, “GOD, where are you?”
Two nights ago, in my hotel room in Memphis, I spent an hour and a half talking on the phone with another friend who is overwhelmed by everything in his life falling apart. He told me the weight of it all is too much to bear, and he has been bearing the weight too long.
And it’s time for the New Year. People of faith who are experiencing trials (maybe you?) can feel very discouraged at this time of year.
In a world
where pop Christianity has replaced the life of Christ
where promises of success motivate church attendance
where “come to our church” has replaced “come unto me”
where lack of healing is blamed on lack of faith
where “Christian” is indistinguishable from “political party”
In a world where there is
not enough food
not enough money
not enough health
not enough friendship
not enough love
In a world where there is
too much starvation
too much poverty
too much sickness
too much loneliness
too much…
