Today’s Question: “How do I keep my faith when God says no? Or maybe, why should I keep my faith when God says no?”
My Answer: Friend, if God said yes to everything you asked, he would be a genie in a bottle, and not God…
To begin, let me tell you a story about Rose’s sister, and her search for a job…
Keith and Rose were a married couple that attended the same Bible study that my wife and I attended. One hot, humid summer evening in Corpus Christi, Texas, we had met to study, and, as was our custom, we started with prayer requests and a common prayer time. Rose told us that her sister had fallen on hard times and was coming to leave with her and Keith for a little while. She asked us to pray that her sister would be able to find a job quickly. There were nine of us there, and we all prayed for Rose’s sister to find a job.
Not long after, Rose’s sister arrived in town. Just two days later, Rose called everyone in the Bible study to share the good news. Her sister had found a job on the second day. Rose was ecstatic, and her praise to God couldn’t be contained. And then I, being the party pooper that I am, asked Rose a question. I braced myself. I gripped the phone a little tighter. And then I asked her.
