Today’s Question: “Bob, I’ve got one for you. John the Baptist asks Jesus if he is the ‘One’ at the stream. His response is a reference to what Isaiah said would come to pass in order to know of his return…. John accepts this to mean, ‘Yes, I am the one.’

So how do you interpret that? Is John asking him if he is the reincarnation of Isaiah? Is Jesus validating that he is? How with this critical passage are we (mis)led by Christianity to reject the idea of reincarnation?”

My Answer: I appreciate the great question, Friend! Many people wonder about this, and a lot has been written about the subject of Christianity and reincarnation. Most of what’s been written falls into two categories. The first category is comprised of those who believe in reincarnation. For the most part, people who believe in reincarnation aren’t traditional Christians. They read the passages you referred to and say, “See? Jesus taught that reincarnation is real.” The second category is made up of people who would be considered traditional Christians. Traditional Christians say that Jesus wasn’t talking about reincarnation. But… I’m not a traditional Christian. I prefer to give more weight to what Jesus said, rather than to what others say he meant.
